Haldimand-Norfolk Community Senior Support Services (H-NCSSS) relies significantly on volunteers to deliver the variety of services and programs offered by our organization. Join H-NCSSS and help us support our communities!
H-NCSSS volunteer roles vary, please see below for descriptions of our different volunteer opportunities.
To join us as a volunteer, please complete the Volunteer Application that is linked at the bottom of this page. H-NCSSS staff will review applications and respond via phone or email. All volunteers must complete the service-specific volunteer onboarding before they start as a volunteer. This can include an interview, reference check, training, and obtaining a clear police record check.

TRANSPORTATION

Senior Support
Provide door-to-door transportation for clients to attend adult day programs, medical appointments, rehabilitation sessions, errands, social programs, and more.
 
Local in-town trips are provided, as well as non-local destinations such as Niagara, Hamilton, Toronto, and London. Volunteers can decide if they would like to provide transportation locally, non-locally, or both.

MEALS ON WHEELS

Senior Support
H-NCSSS collaborates with long-term care facilities, hospitals, restaurants, and catering companies in the region that prepare and package the individual meals. Volunteers’ pick up meals from the providers and deliver them to clients homes. Delivery routes are provided by H-NCSSS and the meals are transported in provided thermal bags.

DINER’s CLUB

Senior Support Diner's Club is a monthly congregate dining program offered to H-NCSSS clients in many of the towns throughout Haldimand-Norfolk. Volunteers assist with preparing food &s; beverages, table setting, serving, and clean up.

FRIENDLY VISITING

Senior Support
The Friendly Visiting program matches volunteers with clients who are living alone or are socially isolated. The visits are generally in the client’s home, but volunteers may assist in other activities outside the home which may include shopping, activities, and social events.

TELEPHONE REASSURANCE

Senior Support Regular telephone contact with clients living alone to monitor their safety and well-being.

ADULT DAY PROGRAM

Senior Support
The H-NCSSS Adult Day Program (ADP) is for individuals living with disabilities, Aphasia, Parkinson’s, MS, Alzheimer’s, and related dementias. ADP provides client-centered activities to enhance the social, cognitive, physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being of clients.
 
Volunteers assist ADP staff with daily programming (i.e. activities, one-to-one time, lunch prep).

Hospice PALLIATIVE CARE OUTREACH

Senior Support
The Hospice Palliative Care Outreach team of volunteers, led by the Hospice Outreach Regional Coordinator are all screened, trained, and educated to provide support to individuals who have been diagnosed with a life-limiting illness, as well as support for their loved ones and caregivers.
Volunteers assist with programs including:
  • Care Planning and Consent
  • Client Support
  • Caregiver Support
  • Volunteer Provided Respite
  • Grief and Bereavement Support Groups
  • safeTALK Suicide Alertness Training

FUNDRAISING & SPECIAL EVENTS

Senior Support H-NCSSS regularly hosts and attends fundraisers and special events. Volunteers assist with organizing, setup & takedown, hosting, ticket selling, manning booths, ect.
